Buying A Business

Specific Topics

1-1: The Foundation

So ... what's better? To start a business or to buy a business? These individuals included in this podcast have started businesses and purchased businesses as well. There are decades of valuable experience and lots of wisdom.

Curious?

Overall, it's not better to do one or the other, but for you, it could be the difference between success and failure. How should I find a business to buy? How should I fund the business? Should I have business partners or not?

Am I ready to buy a business? If we aren't able/willing to be consistent for 30 minutes a week with this podcast, then we're not ready.
If we aren't ready to drive things forward without being asked, then we're not ready to buy a business.

If we're not ready to work our butts off in prep to buy/run a business, then we're not ready to buy a business. If this seems harsh ... well ... probably a good indicator that we're not ready to buy a business. Just saying.

This is a great start to many future podcasts to come.

1-3a: Should I Have Partners?

#1. Will someone grow? ~ click for Quantum Feeling Model ~
      a. Humble
      b. Thankful
      c. Take Ownership

What hurt in life / business have they not healed from? ~ click here for healing booklet ~

If they haven't healed, they will be control freaks and not even know it.

  • Rather than controlling things they should be controlling ... like themselves, they will seek to control you.
  • They will project all their issues onto you.
  • They will not take ownership, even for the simplest of things ... which means ... they aren't able to grow.
  • They will train everyone around them not to bring up their mistakes, not to question them ... and if anyone does bring something up ... where they are clearly in the wrong / mishandled the situation with a client ... they will blame the client and when it's clear that they were wrong, and there's no way for them to run and hide, they will black out ~ click here ~.
  • Why when a mistake they made, a fault they have, do they, as a reflex, bring up ... "Have you looked in the mirror?" They are so broken, so hurt ... they can't see anything about themselves to fix and if on the off chance they do see something, they may say they are sorry ... but will go back and do the same thing again and again. ~ click here for Protocol For An Apology ~
  • They aren't able to INTERNALIZE, ~ click here ~ it seems like anything ... other than ... what hurt someone else has done to them.
Shoot ... if you're thinking ... "Wow, all the above is me ... do I even want to go in business for myself." ... well ... that's really good. :-) This is not a black or white, but a spectrum.

1-3C: Am I Ready To Own A Company?

On this episode of the Voices of Integrity Podcast, we talk directly to business owners and future owners about timing, preparation, and discipline.

Curious?

Owning a company can be one of the hardest things you’ll ever do.
You’ll sacrifice more. Risk more. Work harder than you imagined.
So the real question isn’t, “Do you want to own a business?”
It’s, “Are you preparing yourself to lead one?”
We break down what it actually takes:
Marketing. Sales. Accounting. Taxes. Leadership. Networking.
Disciplined thinking and disciplined action.
Drawing from lessons in Good to Great, we unpack why successful companies are built by disciplined people and why self-discipline matters more than motivation.

We also talk about reading, growth, and how one book can compress decades of experience into a few hours if you’re willing to lean in.
This is a short one.

1-4: How Do I Negotiate Buying A Business?

How do you know what it’s actually worth? How do you avoid overpaying?
And how do you structure a deal that makes sense for both sides?

Curious?

On this episode of Voices of Integrity, we unpack what really happens when you sit down to negotiate a business purchase.
We break down valuation basics like EBITDA and common multiples. Why are some businesses priced at two times gross or several times net income? And why, at the end of the day, is a business worth what someone is willing to pay?
But negotiation isn’t just math.

Sellers will spotlight everything that’s working. Buyers will point out everything that isn’t. That tension is normal. It’s part of the process.

We also talk about:

• Why buyers often overpay when emotions take over
Audio Podcast
• How investors can help keep you grounded
• The danger of buying into an underpriced market
• Why loving the trade doesn’t mean you understand the business
• The most powerful question you can ask: “Why are you selling?”

That last question can change everything. Sometimes the seller’s real motivation gives you more leverage than any spreadsheet ever could.

If you’re serious about buying or selling a business, this is a conversation worth hearing.
